HISTORY
The name of our house "Selesia" is obviously connected with the history of Schlesien.
It was drawn from the Hausberg of the Breslauer, the "Zobten" which was originally named "mons Silencli" (1148) by the tribe of the Silinger.
This tribe belonged to the Germanic Vandals, which came from the north of Scandinavia which was their original habitat and settled close to the Zobten in Silingsberg between 100 B.C and 400 A.D.
During the migration of nations the Vandals moved east the Silingers stayed as a part tribe behind to stay with at the holy place, the Zobten.
Due to this the whole region was called after the Latin name "Silesia", the German name ist "Schlesien" and the polish call it "Slask".
The city Görlitz origins lie in the Slovakian craftsman and merchant town Gorelitz. We found the first mentioning of this residential and work place in the chronicles of the cities Goldberg City founding Schlesien and Löwenberg from the year 1015 respectably 1030.In a document, dated the 3rd of December 1071 issued in Goslar on the Kaiserpfalz the villa (small town) Goreliz is mentioned in connection with a gift of eight royal hooves.
In that time, today's Nicolai suburbs were called villa Gorelitz in which the first eastern church was build in the year 1100. It was build from wood with a straw roof and was dedicated to the holy Nickolaus. Past this church lead the continental route "High street", later named the "via regia", to the ford thru the Neiße. A further merchants street which was also crossing within the city walls was the "Nord-Süd-Magistrale" from Stralsund to Venedig.
